How to embed Spi-V in a Powerpoint Presentation?
Submitted by lutzschmidt on November 29, 2005 - 12:03.
Hi,
one Feature of the Spi-V engine is (as described here: http://fieldofview.nl/spv) the possibility to integrate it into a Powerpoint Presentation.
Is there somewhere a little Tutorial or a description about that?
Have i to work with the standalone application?
Many Thanx in advance! :-)

powerpoint and impress
Since I don't own Powerpoint myself (really...), I am going to quote freely from this article at Microsoft which deals about Flash instead of Shockwave. Paraphrasing that document (note that this will only work on windows):
In OpenOffice Impress, here's what you do (and this should be cross platform)
If you browse for the file, be sure to select 'Shockwave for Director' as the file type.
powerpoint
Thank you very much for this detailed instruction.
In principle it works, but Powerpoint does not hold the entry in the field: "swURL". Even after saving the whole .ppt file it fails if i call the sheet a second time. I have to type the url again in the properties... :-(
But this is not a problem of the Spi-V engine i think ;-)
Impress seems not to be an option, because i didn´t have seen a way to embed Quicktime panoramas (There is a presentation to create, where i want to compare both technologies to a potential client).
Anyway, Thanks!
Lutz
P.S.: If there are news to this problem i will naturally reply to show other interested people in this forum a solution.
quicktime in impress
I'll see if I can find a copy of Powerpoint to investigate. What version of powerpoint are you using?
In OpenOffice Impress I can insert Quicktime panoramas the same way as the SPi-V engine... Use Insert->Object->Plugin, and set the 'files of type' dropdown to 'Quicktime plugin'.
problem with powerpoint
Hi,
after I tested their Tutorial for SPiV in PowerPoint unfortunately appears to run at the Power Point presentation every time following error message:
"This application requires an Xtra (Flash Movie...) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s)."
The specified Xtras folder, but is ready and contains all the necessary Xtras (16 files). So the SPi-V.dcr file and Pano are in a folder and a layer below the Xtras folder.
Does this file have to be indicated in the PowerPoint characteristics somehow as or does need I still additional Xtras for PowerPoint???
Thanks for the help.
Best Regards,
Re: problem with powerpoint
In order for SPi-V to work inside Powerpoint, Shockwave (and the Xtras) need to be installed on the target system. You can not distribute the Xtras with your powerpoint presentation in the way you are trying; they will simply not be found.
